Apple is said to be in the development stages of a novel camera button designed for the forthcoming iPhone 16. Positioned on the lower right side of the phone, this button aims to provide convenient accessibility when holding the device horizontally.

According to a report from The Information, Apple, under the leadership of Tim Cook, is said to be developing a new button for prototypes of the upcoming iPhone 16. This button is intended to facilitate quick capturing of photos and videos when holding the device horizontally. The report, citing two sources, suggests that the camera button might be positioned on the lower right side of the phone, placing it directly under the index finger for seamless use during landscape mode photography and videography.

It’s noteworthy that the Apple iPhone 15 series, launched in September last year, introduced the Action button, replacing the mute button from previous generations. The Action button played a significant role in the marketing campaign for the iPhone 15 series. Similarly, The Information’s report indicates that the new camera button is expected to be a prominent selling point for Apple.

In a September report by Macrumors, it was also indicated that the iPhone 16 series might incorporate a capacitive button referred to as “Project Nova.” The report highlighted that this new camera button is anticipated to be a capacitive button, distinguishing it from a mechanical one. This capacitive button could detect both pressure and touch, offering haptic feedback through the utilization of haptic engines. Drawing parallels to the iPhone SE’s Home Button, the Macrumors report suggested a similar design for this new button.

Contrastingly, a report from The Information proposes that the new button will have a mechanical structure resembling a traditional button. However, it will possess some capacitive features, making it both touch and pressure-sensitive. This design would enable users to swipe left and right for camera zoom control or apply light pressure for focusing on a subject.

It’s important to note that the release of the iPhone 16 is expected in September of this year, and these features may undergo further development before being incorporated into the final device.
