On January 9, India’s top-performing athletes were honored with national sports awards in a grand ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, conferred by President Droupadi Murmu. Shuttlers Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy were awarded the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna for their outstanding achievements in 2023, securing India’s first-ever badminton gold at the Asian Games, along with victories in the Asian Championships and the Indonesia Open Super 1000.
Cricketer Mohammed Shami, recognized for his exceptional contributions to cricket, was also among the athletes receiving the Arjuna Award.
