Rabbit R1 AI assistant’s comparison with Steve Jobs’ iconic iPhone launch, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella commends the presentation and visionary approach of Rabbit R1. He describes it as one of the most impressive developments he has witnessed since the introduction of the iPhone.

Like the rest of the tech community, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella was captivated by the unveiling of Rabbit R1, the AI assistant showcased at CES 2024 in Las Vegas last week. Nadella expressed his admiration for Rabbit R1 to the extent of comparing its launch presentation to the highly acclaimed introduction of the original iPhone by Steve Jobs in 2007.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Nadella remarked, “I think CES this year was very interesting. I thought the demo of the Rabbit OS and the device was fantastic. I must say, after Jobs and the launch of the iPhone, probably one of the most impressive presentations I’ve seen, capturing the vision of what is possible for an agent-centric Operating System (OS) interface.”

Discussing the significance of breakthroughs in natural interfaces, Nadella stated, “I think that’s what everybody is seeking. Which device will make it and so on is unclear. If you have a breakthrough in a natural interface where the idea of navigating one app at a time and bearing all the cognitive load as a human, there does seem to be potential for a real breakthrough,” he added.

What is Rabbit R1?

The startup Rabbit, headquartered in Santa Monica, introduced its Rabbit R-1 AI assistant at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2024) in Las Vegas this week. The R1 is a device powered by artificial intelligence, equipped with a 2.88-inch touchscreen display, and operates on a MediaTek processor. This AI assistant is capable of executing various tasks, such as playing music, placing grocery orders, and sending messages.

In contrast to many AI-based offerings that rely on large language models (LLM) such as OpenAI’s GPT or Google’s Gemini, the Rabbit R1 utilizes a ‘Large Action Model.’ This unique approach enables the Rabbit R1 to assess users’ intentions and behaviors when interacting with specific applications. It is asserted that the Rabbit R1 can accurately and swiftly replicate these actions.

Describing the concept behind Rabbit R-1, Jesse Lyu, the founder and CEO of Rabbit, stated, “We’ve reached a stage where our smartphones host numerous apps with complex user experience designs that lack seamless communication. Consequently, end users experience frustration and often find themselves disoriented. Rabbit is now working towards creating an instinctive, app-free experience empowered by AI.”
